Soul Surfer

Got to watch Soul Surfer last night and it was ridiculously inspiring. I first read about Bethany Hamilton in a magazine years ago when I got hooked on surfing and was amazed by her life and how she continued on to surf despite having just one arm caused by a shark attack.

In the movie she couldn't find reason on why the accident could be God's plan for her. But eventually she realized that something incredibly amazing came out of all the tragedy. She gained courage (only by which she got from God) to join competitions - and win it. She tried when others wouldn't. She was able to spread love and inspire other people with disabilities because of what happened to her. Not only was she able to surf, but she got to fulfill her dreams on becoming a pro surfer.

It really put things into perspective for me. On how significant it is to have God in your life and how much hope you can get from Him when you feel like there's none left. And how everything that happens to your life has a reason and that God has a purpose for it - whether it be good or bad.

I'm really glad they even included this verse early in the movie, because it makes you think back on it while watching the challenges she had to go through and eventually the victory she gained from all of it:

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  Jeremiah 29:11

The movie has an amazing story. Go watch it.
